Garlic rolls from Proof at Taurus

Coconut Grove is getting a couple of Midtown/Wynwood hotspots, one short-term and the other due by the end of the summer.

Fans of the recently closed Proof Pizza and Pasta in Midtown can find some of their favorite dishes at Taurus Beer and Whiskey House in Coconut Grove. Chef Justin Flit is doing pizzas and starters, plus their burgers on Wednesdays (and only 24). Starters include shaved Brussels sprouts, garlic rolls and charred eggplant ricotta and whipped mortadella with Sullivan Street bread. Pizzas include margherita; truffle; Ariete short rib with black garlic, caramelized onion and mozzarella; spinach and garlic confit; and spicy fennel sausage.

They plan to keep the pop-up running for six months.

Meanwhile, Fireman Derek's Pies is planning a second location on Main Highway near the Mediterranean Boho restaurant. According to business partner Kim Murdock, they're hoping to open by the end of the summer, serving up their pies, cakes, desserts and savory offerings. Sidewalk seating will be available, too.
