Flavors of Miami Supports American Liver Foundation

Special dinners featuring local chefs and cocktails are an effective and popular way for nonprofits to raise money for their causes. Guests buy a ticket and get to taste all sorts of dishes and drinks. Chefs get to show off their favorites and get their name out there. It's a fun way to support a cause.

But one group is taking a different approach. At the American Liver Foundation's Flavors of Miami Culinary Gala, local chefs will prepare multi-course meals including some signature courses right at the table. And while this event is new to Miami – the Sept. 8 sold-out gala is only the second time it's been held here – it's been around since 1991, when James Beard Award-winning chef Christopher Gross in Phoenix joined other chefs in supporting the American Liver Foundation's mission. Today, the event takes place in more than 20 cities across the country, raising millions of dollars to support the foundation's work.

"Flavors is a concept that certainly is well suited for Miami," says Thomas Nealon III, American Liver Foundation CEO and National Board Chairman. "More importantly, Miami is definitely a place where the American Liver Foundation needs to establish a greater presence and role." The 2016 Flavors of Miami Presenting Sponsor is the Miami Transplant Institute, a unique affiliation between Jackson Health System and UHealth – University of Miami Health System. 

Adds Nealon: "We're very optimistic that Flavors of Miami will support ALF's efforts to establish a permanent presence in Miami, so that the organization can work with the many incredible physicians and medical professionals in the Miami area to serve liver patients and their families in South Florida.”
