South Florida's restaurant promotion season has been extended, thanks to the new Seed Food and Wine Plant-based Restaurant Week (actually two) Oct. 1-15.

Plant-based restaurants in greater Miami and Fort Lauderdale are offering fixed-price lunch and dinner menus, from $18 lunch to $26 dinner for fast-casual, and $22 lunch and $36 dinner for fine dining.

"You save at least 20 percent, so it's a great way to get a deal and try new things," says Alison Burgos, co-founder of Seed, now in its fifth year. "It's the perfect way to showcase all the amazing plant-based locations across South Florida. We wanted to highlight all the local plant-based dining options while bringing attention to the upcoming SEED Food & Wine Week."

Like the SEED festival, the Restaurant Week gives the community a chance to learn about and explore what a plant-based lifestyle means and how accessible it can be while supporting local businesses, Burgos says. "We also want them to taste for themselves how delicious plant-based cuisine can be."

She also sees the idea of a plant-based restaurant week growing beyond South Florida. "This is the first of its kind in the country. It would be amazing to build this across the country next year."
