Judging the croissants

Who makes the flakiest, most melt-in-your-mouth delicious croissant in Miami?

The judges have spoken: L'Artisane Creative Bakery won best croissant – and it's vegan, too! Open since February, this French patisserie from Carolina Molea and Sandro Ambrogio, is classic in every sense, except that it's 100 percent plant-based – no butter, cream or eggs.

The best chocolate croissant (pain au chocolat) went to Zak the Baker; and people's choice went to La Provence.

Top Miami bakeries competed in the event, presented by French Morning and sponsored by Cacao Noël, Beurremont and Patriarche. The competing finalists included Rosetta Bakery, Zak the Baker, La Boulangerie Boul’Mich, Lobster Bar Sea Grill, Flavorish, L’Artisane Creative Bakery, La Provence Miami and B Bistro & Bakery. The panel of judges were Matthew McDonald, Executive Chef at The National Hotel; Vincent Catala, Private Pastry and Cuisine Chef in Miami; Grégory Gourreau, Pastry Chef at Juvia Miami; Saeko Nemoto, Pastry Chef at Boulud Sud Miami; Yann Rio, Consultant and Private Chef in Miami; Mickaël Marchand, Executive Chef at Grand Beach Hotel Surfside; and Chef Gilles Epié, president of the jury.
