2016 Oakland Park Holiday Village
The weekend’s events begin on Friday night from 6-10pm at Music on Main Street/Rockin’ with Santa at Oakland Park City Hall, and just a short walk to Jaco Pastorius Park the City’s inaugural Oakland Park Holiday Village opens its gates at 6pm as well.
The Oakland Park Holiday Village is a family-friendly event, that is free and open to the public. Daily community entertainment will be performed by local high school bands, and chorus’ as well as enthusiast groups; The weekend entertainment schedule is Florida Youth Orchestra, School of Rock Coral Springs, and Broward Center Spotlights. These performances will take place throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00am-2:30pm. Saturday night the headliner band is Wildfire featuring Randi, concert begins at 4pm. Sunday’s headliner band is Mr. Nice Guy also beginning at 4pm. The Oakland Park Holiday Village will feature a Children’s Corner sponsored by Safeway on Friday night, Holy Cross Hospital on Saturday and The Home Depot on Sunday. Visits from Santa are schedule both Saturday and Sunday, as well as free rides for children on the Oakland Park Holiday Village Express. Artists, crafters, and culinary artisans will spotlight the Holiday Village with a festive shopping market.
Highlighting the Oakland Park Culinary Arts District, ongoing culinary demos by local Oakland Park restaurants will take place on Saturday and Sunday from 11:30am-4:00pm
A Christmas Tree decorating competition pits 30 local businesses against each other competing in three categories for Best Tree. A people’s choice category is also slated where event attendees will be able to vote for their favorite tree. After the weekend-long event, the decorated trees will be donated to 30 families in-need in Oakland Park.
Food for purchase from South Florida’s favorite Food Trucks will be stationed in the Holiday Village Food Truck-Food Court.
Jaco Pastorius Park is located at 4000 North Dixie Highway Oakland Park, FL 33334. Event parking is free in the Dixie Lots located across the street from the park and on NE 12th Avenue.
