Celebrate the grand opening of the Pompano Beach Greenmarket – Broward's oldest continuously operating greenmarket – with an Old-Time Jamboree with a bean & pepper ribbon cutting, music, petting zoo, lots of kid's activities, more music, fresh produce, crafts, cooking contest (foods must include bell peppers or green beans) and a Chicken Drop Raffle! The first Bean and Pepper Jamboree was held in 1946 at the Pompano State Farmers Market on Atlantic Boulevard. The Market was a major distribution hub for the country’s winter vegetables. Growers brought their fruit and vegetables there for shippers to purchase. The jamboree celebrated the end-of-season harvest and the entire community gathered at this much-anticipated annual event for food, bingo and social time.
