One day a year, the public can visit this fascinating property! Decades of Scientific Achievement at SHRS is the focus of this year’s USDA‐ARS Community Day at Chapman Field. Come join us at this USDA research facility, see how agricultural research and experiments are
done, and learn its history. Over the years, this station has been responsible for introducing and developing many of our favorite plants and fruits here in South Florida. This is an opportunity to learn more about the many contributions that scientists at this facility have made, and continue to make that benefit our community and our nation.
This event will feature presentations by Plant Research Geneticist Dr. Osman Gutierrez on the advances in research throughout the history of SHRS and Dr. Ray McGuire on the history of the location.
Plant sales, food vendors, demonstrations, children’s activities, live music, and educational displays will all be on site for your education and enjoyment.
Trolley and walking tours of the over 200-acre experimental groves and extensive plant collections.
