Local Flavor book cover

Wondering what to do with black sapote in your CSA? Get a copy of Local Flavor: Recipes Raised in the Florida Redland, a spiral-bound cookbook published by Miami-Dade County to promote Redland Raised produce, carried by more than 1,000 supermarkets. The Redland Raised label "lets consumers know they're buying local – that it's straight from the field, it's fresh and it's wholesome," says Miami-Dade agricultural manager Charles LaPradd.

The cookbook ($16) features recipes from farmers and local chefs using South Florida produce, including unusual items like sea grape and carambola. Buy Local Flavor from the Dade County Farm Bureau (dade-agriculture.org), Bee Heaven Farm (beeheavenfarm.com) and at farm stands in Homestead. These recipes, used with permission, use seasonal, local ingredients.
