Rosie's Pop-up

After hosting the popular Southern brunch spot at the Copper Door B&B and another Little River location, Jamila Ross and Akino West are now operating Rosie's in a space that offers indoor and outdoor seating. Honored by Michelin as  Bib Gourmand, Rosie's serves \savory and sweet dishes like Cajun shrimp and grits, fish and grits (cornmeal crusted fish, collard green kimchi, tomato gravy cheddar grits), chicken and waffles, crispy hot chicken and other Southern dishes kicked up several notches. Open Friday - Sunday 9am - 3pm

The Urban

This project, in a 58,000-sq-ft lot in the heart of Overtown, is a gathering place with food trucks and containers customized for local retail and community events, says Keon Williams of Urban Philanthropies. “This is a space where the community can come after they get off work,” he says. They've held food distributions here during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lil Greenhouse Grill

Karim Bryant and Nicole Gates began with a food truck in 2013, and opened the brick and mortar in 2017, offering a “healthier alternative to soul food.” Bryant, who began his culinary career at Fuddruckers and worked his way up to more upscale restaurants, features southern dishes with his own creative flair. Favorites include the smoked bbq ribs, dream fire shrimp, chicken and waffles, and seafood cake burger – and live entertainment, too.

Jackson Soul Food

Since 1946, Jackson Soul Food has been serving classics to everyone from Nat King Cole to Lebron James. Founded by Jessie and Demas Jackson (originally as Mama’s Café), this family-friendly eatery is under the helm of Shirlene Jackson Ingraham, one of the Jacksons’ 12 children, where it continues to abide by the owners’ original ethos of hospitality and authentic Southern cooking. Entrees include fried catfish, smothered livers, and oxtail stew and come with a choice of three sides with warm corn muffins.

Chef Creole Seafood and Catering

While chef Ken Sejour’s Haitian food includes staples like oxtail and griot, it’s the seafood that hits home, especially eaten under the chickee with a cold beer. Fish and sauce is whole fish served with a Creole tomato-based sauce; whole fish is served fried with rice and plantains; and conch can be ordered fried, grilled or stewed. In season, Crab Creole and crab buckets are on the menu. There’s also a drive-through. In addition to their Little Haiti locations, Chef Creole is also at 13105 W.

Sweet Jalane’s

Combining Southern baking traditions with Florida soul, Sherronda Daye bakes homespun treats like peach cobblers, red velvet cupcakes, pecan pie and bread pudding for corporate clients and events.

Nemos Uoowow

Founder Kenemo Williams has created lemonade and natural fruit mixers for cocktails and mocktails, available at festivals and events like Folk Life Fridays in Overtown.
