South Florida's friendly town of Surfside is only a mile wide, but it encompasses all the best in a picturesque beach town: a scenic downtown district with an eclectic array of restaurants; a handful of stylish resorts, ranging from intimate boutique hotels to luxury properties, including the new Four Seasons at the Surf Club; an oceanfront recreation center with a pool and family activities; and a community-wide conservation initiative, a turtle nesting program and a public art display that sheds a spotlight on the town’s beloved Florida loggerhead sea turtles.

"It’s surprising at how much there is to see and do," says tourism director Edwin Moura. There are 31 places to eat and drink, including The Carrot,  Araxi Burger, Gourmet Temptations and Le Sirenuse, an outpost of the famed Positano restaurant. Moura says his favorites include Josh’s Deli, with its unorthodox takes on Jewish deli classics, including meat & fish cured in-housel and Serendipity Creamery, which is owned and operated by Surfside resident Jessica Levison. Serendipity serves homemade ice creams and sorbets in eclectic flavors, such as lavender orange, pear Riesling and toasted coconut, along with a selection of homemade toppings.
Other hotspots include 26 Sushi & Tapas, The Backyard BBQ & Brew and Cafe Ragazzi. The recently opened Residence Inn Surfside Miami Beach and the oceanfront Grand Beach Hotel both feature poolside cocktails on the rooftop with picturesque views.

Summer Fridays

On the first Friday of the month, Surfside invites locals and guests to family-friendly themed beach picnics:

June 2: Caribbean-themed picnic with a Bahamian junkanoo band

July 7: Americana-style picnic with s'mores, American folklore storyteller, haystack maze on the beach and more

August 4: Bollywood beach party with Indian food, henna tattoos, and Bollywood dancers.

Everyone is invited, says Moura. "First Fridays beach picnics welcome visitors and neighboring communities for a free family-friendly event that is open to the public. It’s a great way to wind down the workweek and experience the Surfside lifestyle just like a local."
