WHAT: Finish assembling raised beds, fill them with soil, plant herbs and vegetables at Gwen Cherry Park. They’ll provide work gloves, tools and other supplies.

MLK Day Service Project, Belafonte Tacolcy Center

WHAT: Painting, mulching, litter removal, and planting between 62nd Street and 10th Avenue to 22nd Avenue; 54th Street and 6th Avenue (Butterfly Garden East and West); and 62nd Street and 6th Avenue (MLK Marquee). Wear sturdy shoes, comfortable clothing, and sunscreen; bring your gloves (disposable gloves will be provided); masks (optional)

Overtown Bike Ride

WHAT: Join Friends of The Underline and Dade Heritage Trust on a ride through Overtown, one of Miami’s most historic areas. Traditionally an African American neighborhood, Overtown is filled with historic venues that help tell the story of Miami and segregation. Churches, museums, theaters and historic homes are all highlighted on this ride.

46th Annual MLK Day Parade

WHAT: A signature event that is part of the national registry of MLK Holiday celebrations honoring Dr. King’s dream for unity, freedom, social and economic equality, justice and sustainability, this parade is the oldest and largest celebration in the U.S..  The planned 2.5-hour Liberty City route runs from NW 54th St and 10th Ave. to 32nd Ave., following eight miles that Dr. King once traveled during his frequent engagements in Miami.
