Award-winning chef Nando Chang will host out-of-town pop-ups this summer.
Itamae AO – the 10-seat restaurant from chef-owner Nando Chang – is hosting its final dinner service in its midtown location on Sat., Aug. 2.
Chef-owner Nando Chang, who won the James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef: South and led Itamae AO to a Michelin star in April, plans to relocate Itamae AO as soon as he can find the right space. In the meantime, Chang is taking Itamae AO on the road with pop-ups at Birch in Milwaukee on Aug. 15 and 16; Penny in New York City on Aug. 26, and Massara in New York City on Sept. 17.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the great run we’ve had in this special space and so proud of the year we’ve had,” says Chang. The Itamae AO space was tied to Maty’s, his sister Val’s restaurant that closed recently. “When she stepped away, we knew it would soon be time for us to move on as well,” he says. “Itamae AO isn’t going away, and I’m excited to find our new home.”
Nando Chang is actively searching for a new location for the restaurant, considering options both within and beyond Miami. Val Chang, who won the James Beard Best Chef: South Award last year, is also looking for future projects since closing Maty’s.
