Awards Season for Restaurants and Bars

Michelin Guide Restaurants

L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon maintained its standing as Florida’s first and only two Michelin Star restaurant, while Miami newcomers EntreNos, Shingo and Ogawa were awarded one star in the guide.  Miami’s Tam Pham of Tam Tam Miami, the colorful Vietnamese restaurant across from the Dade County Courthouse, was honored with the Young Chef Award. Tam Tam was also awarded a new Bib Gourmand designation, given to restaurants that offer diners good value – specifically, where diners can have two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for about $50. Repeat Bib Gourmands are Bachour, Chug’s Diner, DOYA, El Turco, Ghee Indian Kitchen, Hometown Barbecue Miami, Jaguar Sun, La Natural, Lucali, Mandolin Aegean Bistro, Michael’s Genuine, Phuc Yea, Rosie’s, Sanguich de Miami, Tinta y Café, Zak the Baker and Zitz Sum. Miami Shores’ EntreNos, Ogawa in Little River and Shingo in Coral Gables were awarded one Michelin star. Previous one-star restaurants that maintained their status were Ariete, Boia De, Cote Miami, Elcielo Miami, Hiden, Le Jardinier Miami, Los Felix, Stubborn Seed, The Surf Club Restaurant and Tambourine Room by Tristan Brandt. Los Felix and Krüs Kitchen in Coconut Grove were honored with a Green Star for sustainable practices.

2024 James Beard Finalists

South Florida finalists for the James Beard Awards are Jesus Brazon and Manuel Brazon of Caracas Bakery in Doral and Miami, for Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker, and Val Chang, Maty’s, Miami, for Best Chef South. Winners will be celebrated in Chicago on June 10.

North America’s 50 Best Bars Awards

On April 23, this ceremony will celebrate the newest batch of innovative cocktail scenesetters and mixology talent. South Florida bars have fared well in recent years. Café La Trova was named No. 9 on the 2023 list. Opened in 2019 by cantinero Julio Cabrera, a celebrated ambassador for Cuban culture in the cocktail world, the Little Havana nightspot features food from chef Michelle Bernstein and live music with the house Son Cubano band. Sweet Liberty, the Miami Beach bar with a huge spirits list and top-flight bar fare, came in at No. 34 last year. Broken Shaker at the Freehand backyard, No. 32 on the 2022 list.  

2024 Global Tastemakers

FOOD & WINE announced its 2024 Global Tastemakers awards, naming Miami one of its top 10 U.S. cities for food and drinks, and Maty’s as one of its top 20 U.S. restaurants.
