Have you encountered at least one poem yet this month? Every April, National Poetry Month, the O, Miami Poetry Festival hosts events, gatherings and poetry in public places projects celebrating our community.
Here are some of this year’s projects:
Family Meal: A Poetry Reading with Gabrielle Calvocoressi
Friday. April 10, 7-10pm, Dunns Overtown Farm, 937 NW 3 Ave.
In Miami, we don’t just say, “I love you.” We say, “Did you eat yet?” Grab a meal and a seat at Family Meal, a community-based poetry reading and dinner experience featuring Gabrielle Calvocoressi and this year’s Poetry Foundation Fellows, Miami Freedom Project, and potluck-style meal contributions from local chefs.
Quince Portraits at Vizcaya Farmers Market
Sun., April 12, 10 am-noon, Vizcaya Village
Get a classic Miami-style quinceañera portrait taken (with all the adornos—including a flower swing) ahead of Nuestros Quince/Everyone’s Quince, O, Miami’s 15th birthday party later in the evening. They’ll also be selling copies of our newest publications, Literally Everyone’s Invited: An Ode to South Florida, and Forager: A Subjective Guide to Miami’s Edible Plants.
Dark Sky to Dusk: A Walk into Writing, a New Day
Sun., April 19 5am-7:30am
At the height of International Dark Sky Week, a guided silent walk under the stars culminates in a waterfront sunrise viewing and quiet writing time at the Deering Estate in this project by Lucia Leao.
A Poetry Reading & Conversation with Cecily Parks
Thur., April 23, 7-9pm
A reading and conversation with American poet and professor Cecily Parks, moderated by Cherry Pickman at Tropical Audubon Society in South Miami.

O, Miami Books: Forager: A Subjective Guide to Miami’s Edible Plants
Pick up the revised and expanded edition of Forager, originally released in 2014, featuring a new introduction, updated entries on the region’s edible plants and original poems from O, Miami’s archive.
