Well-loved master gardener Ron Findlay, who worked as a lawn and garden specialist at Coconut Grove’s Shell Lumber for nearly 15 years, is remembered as a beloved son, husband, friend and father who was known for his knowledge of Florida agriculture. Findlay, who died in February, “loved to learn about any plant known to man,” says Matthew Concha, hardware supervisor at Shell Lumber. “Throughout the workday, he was very interactive with all the customers here.”
Customers would ask Findlay questions about leaf problems or bring in pictures of their plants. He built a reputation as a reliable and knowledgeable sales professional. “He was more than a coworker to us, he was family,” says Concha. “Ron’s legacy and name will never be forgotten.”
A celebration service is planned for later in the spring. Funds for the event are being raised here.
