Rare Fruit Council International (RFCI), Miami, Florida
Last Updated December 09, 2019
Why We Love It: Founded in 1955, the Miami-based Rare Fruit Council international is dedicated to education, introduction and promotion of rare tropical fruits. Speakers cover tropical fruits, beekeeping, organic growing, pruning and propagating. Look for their booth featuring tropical fruits at the seasonal Coral Gables farmers market and Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden’s annual fall Ramble and Spring Garden Festival. They publish Tropical Fruit News and Rare and Exotic Tropical Fruit Recipes, available for sale online. Memberships start at $30/40. Meets the second Wednesday of each month at 7pm at the Burns Science Building in the DiMare Science Village Classroom (next to the Wings of the Tropics butterfly exhibit and the Whitman Tropical Fruit Pavilion) at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, Coral Gables. Use the old south entrance. Members are encouraged to bring a dish, fruit platter or seasonal fruits from their gardens to share.
