One of South Florida's champions of local artisans, family-owned and operated grocer Milam’s Markets is expanding. In spring 2022, they’re opening a new market at the Link at Douglas, a seven-acre mixed-use development at the Douglas Road Metrorail Station that includes 1,500 residential units, retail and office space, and a plaza connecting with The Underline.

“We look forward to blending the Milam’s culture and décor with an evolving modern community and we are excited to meet the future residents of Link at Douglas,” says marketing head Kristie Milam, one of 11 family members involved in the business. “Since it is adjacent to the Metrorail, we are assuming [customers] will be UM students, young professionals, those utilizing the Metrorail to get to and from work, or those who live on the west side of US 1.”

Milam says the store will continue to sell an assortment of foods made by local artisans, including baked goods, sweets, vegan products, sauces and drinks. As with their other stores in Coconut Grove, Pinecrest, Sunny Isles Beach, Coral Gables and Miami Springs, the new location will adjust its offerings according to customer needs. “Luckily, being a hyper-focused and local company allows us to do that since we don’t have a chain of command or corporate office in another state,” she says. “Prepared foods will be similar to the Grove store – more grab and go – since we believe the self-serve meal era is coming to an end from COVID.”

Link at Douglas caters to residents who are looking for ways to avoid road traffic through public transit while seeking a more connected lifestyle. In addition to connecting to Metrorail, county buses and municipal trolleys, the development will incorporate over $17 million in public infrastructure improvements. Milam's Markets is part of Link at Douglas' strategy to develop a cohesive project with an attractive mix of uses that will transform the area, say developers. “We are thrilled that our future residents and visitors will have a best-in-class grocer as part of our cutting-edge transit-oriented development,” says Adam Maits, who leads retail leasing for the Adler 13th Floor Joint Venture.
