Pop Up Grocer Emerges in Wynwood
There’s a new grocery store with a one-month shelf life in the artsy Wynwood neighborhood. Pop Up Grocer, fresh from engagements in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago and Austin, is open daily from 10am-7pm through Feb. 27. The colorful shop at 171 NW 23 St. stocks 400 products, including some local artisan foods, and other brands, according to founder Emily Schildt.
“The objective is to provide exposure for early-stage brands who are either entirely new to retail (just launched or direct-to-consumer) or otherwise get lost on the shelves of traditional grocery stores (40,000 square feet with 40,000 SKUs vs our < 1,000 sqft and ~ 400 products),” she says. “We also consciously source exclusively better-for-you brands with products we feel are bringing products to market that warrant attention, over those that are less environmentally or health-conscious, for example.”
By putting these products in front of early adopting consumers, buyers, retailers, media and platform, Schildt says Pop Up Grocer also creates a “platform for possibility. We've had many success stories where brands we feature go on to retail in national chains, get highlighted in national publications, and are more attractive to investors as a result of their success in our shops.”
Local brands sold at Pop Up Grocer include Liger’s Cookies, The Sister Yard cold brew coffee and Vacation sunscreen.
While it’s too late for prospective vendors to participate in the Miami pop up, they can apply online here.
