Like many of South Florida’s major events in 2020, the Miami Book Fair Nov. 15-22 looks different this year. The event will be virtual, featuring mostly free online events and 200+ authors at MiamiBookFairOnline.com.  Sign in and you’ll be able to join live events, stream authors on demand, read about writers in conversation, buy featured books, and more. Look for on-demand author events schedule on the Miami Book Fair Online homepage. Events with live Q&A sessions will be listed accordingly.

Among the offerings: Ben Katchor’s The Dairy Restaurant, part of the Jewish Encounter Series, exploring the biblical milk-and-meat taboo, the first vegetarian practices, and the invention of the restaurant through text and drawings.

From Marcus Samuelsson of Red Rooster Overtown comes The Rise: Black Cooks and the Soul of American Food, a feast of food, culture and history to highlight Black cooking today, with 150 recipes in honor of dozens of top chefs, writers and activists.

Taste of Miami, produced by neuelane, showcases Miami South Florida restaurants affected by the pandemic. With more than 50 recipes from participants like M.E.A.T. Eatery, Tequila, even Arbetter’s Hot Dogs, the cookbook is a fundraiser, giving 100% of profits from the sale to participants. “We also hope to showcase Miami’s diverse culture and eclectic taste in food,” says Michael Campos, neuelane co-owner. “We’ve seen firsthand the devastating financial impact this pandemic has caused on all restaurants, especially the local mom-and-pop restaurants that we’ve come to love.” For more information, click here.
