Coming in 2019: The Doral Yard

It’s Westward Ho for the founders of The Wynwood Yard – they’re opening The Doral Yard in Doral next spring.

According to Downtown Doral developers Armando Codina and Ana-Marie Codina Barlick, the project will unite food, culture and activities in the fast-growing area of west Miami-Dade. “For Downtown Doral, we were missing a retail concept that bridged food, working, and art all in one place, and The Doral Yard will be it,” says Barlick, CEO of Codina Partners. “We had been tracking Wynwood Yard’s success as a hub for food, art, and community engagement. They are the ideal partners to bring that particular offering to life in our growing community.”

Barlick says they they were looking to build a lasting community for Downtown Doral, 250 acres of offices, a school, restaurants and shops, along with accommodations that include rentals to luxury condos, single-family homes and assisted-living facilities. In The Doral Yard, they hope to capture the authentic and organic spirit of The Wynwood Yard, but in a permanent location, she says. Downtown Doral residents can walk there, but they expect to attract multigenerational visitors from South Broward and even Kendall.

The Doral Yard at Downtown Doral will be a 20,000-square-foot space divided into three zones: The Hub, CHARCOAL garden bar + grill, and The Backyard. An indoor micro food hall will feature a co-working café and three local food concepts. The space will also be available for large meetings, events, workshops, classes and gatherings. A full-service bar will serve cocktails, beer, wine, coffee and juices. The Backyard, a 5,000-square-foot, partially covered outdoor entertainment and culinary area with trees and greenery to create a living stadium, will be the space for families, residents and visitors to sit, dance, and enjoy live music and other cultural performances.

The community gathering concept was created by Della Heiman and Ken Lyon of Yard Hospitality, and Joseph Furst of the Wynwood Business Improvement District and formerly with Goldman Properties.

“We look forward to making our mark on the Doral community with a food, culture, and round-the-clock activities,” says Heiman. She says they plan to host about 10 free events each week.

The Wynwood Yard, launched in 2015 as an outdoor culinary incubator, has become a popular gathering space for the community, known for its rotating food trucks, regular events, della bowls and Charcoal, and edible garden. It’s slated to close in spring 2019 to make way for a development. Another project, The North Beach Yard, is also in the works for 2019.
