Intriguing Tale of a Tall Ship with a Miami Connection
Beatrice (Bea) Brickell, the great-granddaughter of William and Mary Brickell, is joining Miami historian Cesar Becerra for a series of presentations on the city’s early days and a tall ship, The SS Kaimiloa, that sailed to the South Seas with Miami’s third city clerk, Medford Ross Kellum.
The quest has taken Becerra to Tahiti, New Zealand, Hawaii and San Francisco to track down the trail of this 230-foot-long Barkentine ship that Kellum re-configured from an old sailboat called The Luzon that plied the waters from San Francisco to the Philippines from 1900 to 1924.
