Corinne Mariposa and Seed Share at Legion Park Farmers Market

Corinne Mariposa wants everyone to start growing more plants. She’s launched Miami Seed Share, a regular gathering for people to collect seeds and learn how to grow plants. At the end of the growing season, successful gardeners can bring back their seeds to give away to others. “We should all be saving seeds!” says Robertson, who comes up with clever themes for her events, like Keep It Mallow, for seeds in the mallow family: okra, cranberry hibiscus and roselle.

Not all seeds are edible; some are host plants for butterflies, natives, medicinal and pollenizing. Recent featured seeds include Malabar spinach, dill, spilanthes, roselle, pigeon pea, passion vine, yellow necklacepod and American beautyberry. This October she’s offering the full Heirloom Garden seed collection, locally collected seeds that are South Florida-tested and ready for the public to grow.

Find Corinne and her seed share program at the Legion Park Farmers Market every Saturday and the Arsht Center Farmers Market on Monday nights. Look for events at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden and Pinecrest Branch Library. Join Miami Seed Share on Facebook to find out about upcoming events.
