Oakland Park Oktoberfest: Beer, Food, Doggie Divas
Time to track down lederhosen and dirndls for you and your dog. At this year’s Oktoberfest celebration in Oakland Park, in addition to the Central Bark Dachshund Dash on Sat., the Doggie Fashion Show for dogs under 30 pounds will recognize the Doggie Diva (most fashionable), Twinning (owner and dog dress-alike) and Oktoberfest Dog (best Oktoberfest themed costumer). Entrants must register in advance here.
What about the beer? Funky Buddha Brewery is brewing up an array of German-inspired seasonal beers, including Floridian Hefeweizen, an authentic German-style wheat ale; Hop Gun IPA, Vibin' Lager, a crisp Helles-style lager; Buddhafest Marzen, an amber German-style festbier, and Bonita Applebum, an apple pie brown ale made with cinnamon, vanilla and apples.
Entertainment headliners include the San Antonio-based Alpine Express, Master Jodler, zither and accordion virtuoso Sepp Diepolder, and traditional Schuhplattler dancers.
Other Oktoberfest activities include the beer barrel roll, beer stein races, along with apple strudel eating contests. Guests can stop by the seminar tent for “Beer 101” and “Beer and Cheese Pairings,” seminars hosted by Funky Buddha.
The Oktoberfest Kids’ Corner will offer face painting, flower crowns, cookie decorating and other art and craft activities, free of charge, in addition to a traditional carnival area with rides and games.
General admission is $5, with ages 12 and under admitted free with adults. Premium parking will be available in the immediate vicinity of the park and free parking nearby with complimentary shuttle services. A ride-sharing drop off and pick up location will be near the main gate at the corner of NE 12th Avenue and NE 37th Street.
