Zarron Brown, the Worm Whisperer

Don’t say ewww. These critters, along with bacteria and fungi, are the keys to healthy soil, says Zarron Brown, aka the Worm Whisperer. “They’re part of putting life back in the soil,” Brown says.

His mission is to educate everyone on how to start a composting system – converting food scraps, yard trimmings, paper and other organic materials into rich, dark soil conditioner. This sustainable practice keeps reusable waste out of the landfill, too. A former U.S. Marine who completed FIU’s Veterans and Small Farmers Outreach program, Brown shares his knowledge on his website, through “dirtshops” and talks throughout South Florida. He also sells compost and composting systems on his website.
