The stakes are high in this Overtown barbecue cookoff. On Sat., Mar. 28 from noon-5pm, the community will help decide who serves the best barbecue as finalists compete for the chance to lease and operate the historic former People’s Barbecue Building, a landmark location that’s long been a symbol of culture, community, and great food in the historic neighborhood.
At the free public event at the 9th St. Pedestrian Mall, the three semifinalists:
· Extra Butter Miami, competing as People’s Outlaw BBQ
· Rosie’s, competing as Black Pit BBQ
· McKays Catering, competing as Queen of the Kitchen
The cook-off winner will advance to the final RFP review process to be considered for a future BBQ partnership.

“The People’s Choice Barbecue Cookoff represents our commitment to honoring Overtown’s history while building its future,” says James McQueen, executive director of the Southeast Overtown/Park West CRA.
For over five decades, the original People’s Barbecue served as a gathering place where stories were shared, traditions were honored, and community bonds were strengthened.
The event will include tastings, voting, music, entertainment, food vendors, kids’ activities and games. Admission is free, but you must register here.
