Plant-based Foods for All: Seed Food and Wine Week 2019
As plant-based eating goes more mainstream – just look at the popularity of the Impossible Whopper at Burger King and vegan dishes at Walt Disney World’s dining venues — so do chefs, says Alison Burgos, who co-founded the Seed Food and Wine Festival six years ago. This year’s event, Nov. 7-10, features a number of chefs whose restaurants satisfy avid carnivores. “What’s cool is that we’re trying to have conversations with mainstream chefs, really pushing them to try their hand at plant-based foods,” she says. “And some of these chefs have become plant-based in their own daily lives.”
Among this year’s competitors in the Burger Battle include PINCHO, winners of this year’s People’s Choice at the South Beach Wine and Food Festival Burger Bash. “Sergio’s is accepting our challenge,” says Burgos. For the new Taco Tailgate, Charly’s Vegan Tacos and Love Life Cafe, two plant-based restaurants, are participating, but so are Taquiza Tacos and Bodega Taqueria y Tequila.
Seed’s mission has always been about more than food, she notes. “It’s how to live consciously – mind, body, and spirit – and more sustainably.
