Miami-Dade residents: Got space for your own mango or soursop tree? What about butterfly-attracting or bird-friendly Florida natives?
The Adopt-a-Tree program is back, allowing Miami-Dade County single-family and duplex homeowners with up to two free trees every year. Almost 225,500 trees have been adopted since the program’s inception in 2001.
There are plenty of good reasons to plant trees! They:
• Reduce air-conditioning costs by providing shade
• Improve a home’s appearance, which can help to increase a property’s real estate value
• Provide a natural habitat for wildlife
• Reduce flooding by absorbing excess rainwater and increasing infiltration
• Remove significant amounts of carbon dioxide from the air, which reduces the impact on climate change
Adopt-a-Tree Moss Cultural Arts Center: Sat., Sept. 23
The third and final event for the 2023 Adopt-a-Tree season will take place on Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center located at 10950 SW 211 Street. Pre-registration for this event will open in August. Tree selection includes grafted mango, soursop, locustberry, satinleaf, Spanish stopper, firebush.
