For two days every July, Floridians can get a jump-start on spiny lobster season during the mini-season. These tasty crustaceans – Panulirus argus – an be harvested the last consecutive Wed. and Thurs. of July. (The regular season is Aug. 6 through Mar. 31.)
There are lots of regulations, including bag limit – divers can get six per person in Monroe County and Biscayne National Park and 12 per person in the rest of Florida – and size (carapaces must be greater than three inches to be harvested).
