The Wynwood Yard Open Again After Zika Closing

The normally busy Wynwood has seen declines in traffic after the Zika infection was discovered there last week. For the all-outdoors Wynwood Yard, news of the mosquito-born infection was even worse – they chose to close last week, and two of their employees tested positive for Zika. But all employees are “doing well now,” says a release, and the Yard is open again, with stringent new mosquito mitigation measures. For visitors, there’s bug spray and free mosquito repellent towelettes available. Mosquito Nix is installing a state-of-the-art mitigation system, that uses nozzles set up in unobtrusive places that release three or four mists a day of pyrethrum and other natural botanical insecticides, each a few seconds long.

“We are deeply committed to being forthright with our team members, guests and community.  This is a 100% outdoor venue and we advise everyone to follow current CDC guidelines, including restrictions on women who are pregnant or plan on getting pregnant, as well as their partners,” says Della Heiman, founder.

The Wynwood Yard has a full calendar of events for the week. That includes a #LoveforLocals happy hour Thursday, Aug. 11, and a della customer appreciation day for Saturday’s Wynwood Art Walk. Also on Saturday, from 4pm to 2am, the Art of Food and Music presents a special Latin edition in collaboration with III Points, including live Latin music DJs, art and food. collaboration with III Points, including live Latin music DJs, art and food.
