Layered dishes? Al fresco cooking? Girl Scouts prove their culinary skills.
74 Girl Scouts from troops in the Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida recently went head-to-head in the Cast Iron Chef Competition at Camp Mahachee. Their challenge? Create something delicious using outdoor cooking techniques and undertaking challenges — using only three ingredients, or creating a layered dish, to name a few.
Each of 10 teams decided on their dish, went to the pantry for ingredients, heated their dishes using Dutch ovens, pans or foil packets on hot coals, plated them and presented them to judges for scoring on presentation, originality and taste.
This year’s top winner: Team Sweet S’mores, who made a great layered chicken dish to win the coveted Golden Spoon.
