For Jeffrey Wolfe, proprietor of Wolfe’s Wine Shoppe in Coral Gables (and edible South Florida wine columnist), adjusting to the new normal means wearing a new hat – delivery man – and conducting his weekly wine tastings virtually.

And both roles are helping his Coral Gables business, effectively closed since the pandemic shutdown.

Calling himself the “Milk Man,” Wolfe offers delivery service with a creative twist, putting together wines fitting a theme. Recent themes have included the “Pizza and Pasta Case” containing two bottles each of six different wines, including Tintero Rosato 2019 and Ercole Barbera del Monferrato 2018; and “California Dreaming,” highlighting favorite wines from the west coast.

After closing his shop, Wolfe dons his white delivery cap and protective gear to deliver wines to thirsty customers.

His virtual wine tastings debuted in March, when he hosted an Instagram live event in lieu of his popular Friday evening events. By April, he moved to Zoom, the popular video conferencing platform.

“Funny that growing up, Zoom was a TV show that aired on PBS and preceded or followed other educational shows, like Sesame Street and The Electric Company,” he recalls. “Zoom was crowdsourced back then by kids who watched it and gave a voice to the show without adults on the screen, foretelling the future.”
