South Florida Holiday Gift Guide 2023
Skip the big-box stores or online shopping this season. Instead, give those you love something home-grown: a basket of their favorite local artisan foods, a festival ticket, something you’ve baked or pickled or gathered or planted yourself. When you support local businesses – food artisans, family shops, independent retailers, restaurants and others – you’re helping them thrive and grow our community. Here’s our annual roundup of gift ideas from local businesses. Some are advertisers, others are businesses we’ve written about or discovered in the community.

Burger Beast's Cruz Diablo T-Shirt
WHAT: Burger Beast Sef Gonzalez is a treasure trove of local pop culture and esoteric knowledge. One of his recent obsessions is Cruz Diablo, known for his lucha libre stints in Cuba and Venezuela during the 1950s. In early 1959, he wrestled in a series of matches unmasked at Coliseo de la Ciudad Deportiva & Havana Madrid in Cuba until the Cuban revolution ended his professional wrestling career. In the 1980s, when Sef fell in love with professional wrestling, his father told him the stories of his grandfather, Cruz Diablo, who died before Sef was born. Today, Cruz Diablo is now Burger Beast's hamburger that appears at regular pop-ups ... and it's also a series of t-shirts. We love the one designed by local artist Brian Reedy.
