Unseasonable Bad Weather Cancels Some Weekend Farmers Markets
It’s bad news for local farmers markets and artisan vendors a little over a week from Christmas – the windy, rainy weather all week is forecast to continue Saturday and part of Sunday, resulting in market cancellations. Some market organizers say they may open on Sunday depending on the forecast.
For farmers, the harvest continues, rain or not. You can order from some vendors. “The market being cancelled is a big curveball for a small farm that has produce ready to be harvested whether or not there’s a market to sell it at or not,” notes Little River Cooperative. French Farms has opened their web store for online orders, including eggs, starfruit, bread and butter pickles, salad greens and herbs.
And for food artisans, looking to sell their baked goods, cookies, jams and jellies, it hits hard. Look for your favorite market vendors online, where you may be able to order for shipping or pickup.
