Where the Women Are: South Beach Wine and Food Festival 2019
Many food and drink events in South Florida look like a guys’ club. Not South Beach Wine and Food Festival, returning for its 18th annual edition Feb. 20-24.
“I didn’t have to look hard to find female chefs,” says Festival founder and director Lee Brian Schrager. “It was a men’s field. Now, not so much.”
This year’s signature Tribute Dinner honors two trailblazing women in the food and beverage industry: chef and restaurateur Nancy Silverton and Ferrari-Carano Vineyards and Winery CEO Rhonda Carano. Author and former restaurant critic Ruth Reichl will serve as the evening’s master of ceremonies. The menu will be curated by Dominique Crenn, Gabrielle Hamilton and Ashley Merriman, Dahlia Narvaez, Missy Robbins and Frederic Delaire.
More than 100 events are planned for Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Highlights include: Thurs., Feb. 21: Cobaya Dinner hosted by Michelle Bernstein, Angie Mar, Hedy Goldsmith and David Plonowski; Dinner hosted by Nina Compton, Edouardo Jordan, Dolester Miles and John Kunkel; Taste of Puerto Rico hosted by José Andrés. Fri., Feb. 22: Shabbat Dinner, hosted by Einat Admony, Amos Sion, Zak Stern and Adeena Sussman; Taste Jamaica hosted by Cindy Hutson and Delius Shirley.
