Macchialina, South Beach

Open since 2012, this rustic neighborhood spot consistently turns out authentic pasta made in house, like beet mezzaluna and cavatelli and regional touches like gnocco fritto, puffy dough from Emilia-Romagna, served for the salumi and cheese board. Executive chef Mike Pirolo was born in Queens but raised in Avellino in Campania; his chef de cuisine, Ruggero Vittorini, was born in Rome. Look for a second location to come at Alhambra Towers in Coral Gables.

Fiola Ristorante & Bar,
Coral Gables

This elegant newcomer is the South Florida outpost of the Washington, D.C., fine-dining flagship from chef Fabio Trabocchi, born in the Marche region, and his Spanish wife and business partner, Maria Font Trabocchi. Italian ingredients get luxurious treatment, as in a porcini mushroom soup with sheep’s milk ricotta pansotti and Parmigiano foam and a prosciutto-wrapped veal chop with Alba hazelnuts.

Doma, Wynwood

Southern Italian cuisine from Luca Lomonaco, who has worked at Toscana Divino, Il Gabbiano and Forte dei Marmi, and partners, in a modern, light space. Seafood, pasta and salads use locally sourced produce from Harpke Farms.
